Hello all

I have joined especially to post this as I am at a dead end. There is a belief handed down that our family somewhere have a link to the Ebchester etc Surtees line, and I have been told that it was around my great-grandfather's time (Christopher Surtees born Moorsley, Durham 1841, died Belmont, Durham 1911).
Tracing him back, William Surtees 1811 (Washington, Durham) -1892 (Houghton-le-Spring, Durham), married Ann Robson; Robert Surtees (1766 Whickham, Durham -1841) married Eleanor Todd; Robert Surtees (1743-1811) married Jane Daglish.
This last Robert Surtees (1743-1811) is one that in several trees I have found, have had him as being an Ebchester Surtees, whilst others have had a different marriage. I have consulted parish records but cannot locate this Robert Surtees' birth, at least not in Whickham where I would assume it to be. There is a marriage record for Robert Surtis in 1762 to Jane Daglish, but I cannot tie his birth and working backwards I am finding difficult.
I would love to be able to ascertain if this Ebchester link really exists and where but I do not know where to go with it; I would also love to know this as my father is very ill and I am really doing this for him. Any advice would be greatly appreciated...and apologies if this is on the wrong thread.

As noted on freereg William is the 2nd son of Robert and Eleanor. His father is the son of Robert SURTEES, native of Whickham and his mother is native of Lamesley.
Last child as far as I can see is below.

If I read the post correctly you mention Robert the wife of Eleanor was born 1766, this means he was 43 when he married. Was he married before?
