Why can't I find this death cert? 1903 HUTTON Edinburgh
« on: Saturday 12 June 21 13:13 BST (UK) »
Edinburgh Evening News 16/17 April 1903, under "Deaths", John Hutton, compositor, died on the 15th at 7 Windmill Street, the house of his son-in-law.

Seems straightforward.  But Scotland's People has no John Hutton death certificate in Edinburgh from 1902 to 1904.

What's my next move?

If I come across a Parish or village name that I don't know, I usually refer to GENUKI;  and I found St. Giles is the main church in Edinburgh.

Thus there was one death notified in Edinburgh and it was this one:-

In 1903, there was the death of John Sutton aged 78, in the Parish of St. Giles, Edinburgh    Ref:- 685/4 561

Best wishes, Rena

You are all angels.  Thank you.  This "James" (it is John but mistranscribed) is the right guy.

If you contact SP to tell them of the transcription error, you may be refunded?

I've been refunded in the past for certain errors.

I have reported it to them (also that it's hard to read) - my first time doing this so waiting to see what comes of it.  Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the correction.

It's so exasperating that my brain translates what it wants to see.  Sometimes I think I should be taken out and shot (but not today)   :D
