Looking for a woman named Fanny o Francis could be Scott, Ryder later Watson. Born 1811 or 1823. First notice was in bath in 1850 where she had a child called Elizabeth husband was said to be George Watson watchmaker. Fanny moved to Bristol had another child John then to bilston had another child and finally market Harbrough. All censor says Fanny was the head of the house

What is the connection to Bengal or the East Indies - as in your subject title?

What is the connection to Bengal or the East Indies - as in your subject title?
The 1861 census gives Fanny age as 38 and born East Indies. RG9 piece 2249 folio 30 page 16.
Fanny is a charwoman living in Market Harborough Leicestershire with her three children Elizabeth (lucinda) age 11 Bath, John age 8 Bristol and Rathel? son age 6, Bilston Staffordshire.
It is Elizabeth Lucinda's baptism that gives her father's name as George Watson, Watchmaker.
1871 RG10 piece 3225  folio 10 page 14 Francis Watson age 60 born East Indies still in Market Harborough with Elizabeth and John

richiespain did you get the surname Scott from this death registration? Are you sure this is your Francis/Fanny?

I see the surname Ryder is from this birth registration on the GRO index. Do you have this birth certificate to know if the mother's name is Fanny?
Elizabeth Watson Dec 1/4 1849 reg dist Bath vol 11 page 32 Mother's maiden name Ryder
No middle name of Lucinda on the birth reg and it is not used on the census records either

"East Indies" generally refers to the islands to the east of the Indian sub-continent.
E.G. Indonesia, the Phillippines, and other islands.

Back then it included India, Burma etc in general usage. Bengal is definitely India.
