I'm looking for this William WRIGHT, especially to work out who his parents were.  Scotlands People returns too many to wade through.  Any suggestions how to make progress with such a common name?

Wife: Margaret CHISHOLM
Marriage: probably 1816 Dec 02, Edinburgh, Canongate
Youngest child born: about 1835
Occupation: butcher / flesher

Not with family in 1841 census or subsequently.  Known only from relatives' death certificates.  Age unknown.  I can provide more details of his children if it would help somehow!

You need to give us more information, where was Margaret and the children in 1841 /51 could you please give the information from the census. 

Please give details of the childrens births/baptisms, what was their fathers occupation

I think you mean David Wright 10 July 1835?

The marriage you have in 1816 certainly looks likely as Margaret Chisholm's father on this is given as William Chisholm, matching her death cert. The original entry in the OPRs might include an occupation or location for father maybe www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XT1G-78C

There are a few of deaths/burials in the OPRs for Canongate for a William Wright between 1834-41. The image may include an occupation that could help you confirm details (no parents' details though):

1836 - Age 47
1838 - Age 49
1841 - Age 74

When I've got a moment I'll try and find the grave, in case it gives more details.
