Edward BROWN 1817-?
« on: Sunday 13 June 21 05:09 BST (UK) »
Edward Brown was born c1817 in Westham, Essex according to 1851-1881 census.

On 18 Jan 1846 at St Mary Newington he married Eliza WESTON. He was a widower.

Trying to find a couple of things about him.

1. Where is he in 1841 census. He was a ticket collector in 1851
2. Who was his first wife.

Many thanks

Thanks Mckha and Kay.

I did find a marriage for a Thomas BROWN in 1844 to Harriet HILLS. His father was Arthur BROWN, a gardener, plus the address given was Devonshire St.

Thomas was born c1822 in Essex, parents Arthur and Ann.

Not sure about the marriage to Catherine either. He signs as Edward Brown but in the marriage to Eliza in 1846 just as E Brown.

If Arthur was still around in 1842 he must be in the 1841 census somewhere.

An online tree has Arthur marrying an Ann PALMER at Whitechapel in 1811. Not so sure on this either, no sources quoted.

I think this may be Arthur in 1851   Living at Lombard Street, Saint Edmund-The-King and Martyr, City of London,

James Barnes 52  Yeoford Suffolk
Elizabeth   Barnes   58 London, Middlesex,
James W   Barnes   32   Clerk   London,
Charles   Barnes   22   Clerk   Islington, Middlesex
Mary   Barnes           20    Islington, Middlesex
Jemima   Barnes   18   Islington, Middlesex
Catherine   Barnes   16   Islington, Middlesex,
Maria   Barnes   14   Islington, Middlesex
Ellen   Barnes   11   Islington, Middlesex,
Susan   Brees   Servant 39Domestic servant   Wales
Elizabeth   Smart   Servant 21 Domestic servant   London
John Owen Pugh  31  Clerk Wales
Caleb Marshall   38   Porter   Ireland
Arthur   Brown   Widower   66   Private watchman   Eastham, Essex

Kay

Added - For some reason he is transcribed on Anc as Elizabeth Brown??

If the 1851 is the right Arthur I wonder if he was also living in Lombard Street City of London in 1841 - Listed as Arthur Browne age 55 Male Servant - Not born in County

Baptism?

Arthur Brown
Birth date   27 Nov 1785
Baptism date 18 Dec 1785
Parents  Arthur and Lydia Brown
East Ham, St Mary Magdalene
