What to do with grandads photos
« on: Monday 14 June 21 22:09 BST (UK) »
There's a box of photos of my grandfather's taken between 1920-1940 mostly undated and no names .IT  was marked" unknown to the family now" , back in 2011

A lot are of his fellow ship mates ..identifiable by their caps as to which ship they were on and I will donate to a maritime museum

I can maybe identify a few of his siblings and their children from comparing with other photos .

I'm reluctant to just throw them away ...maybe someone on a photo restoration or identification course could use them as practice

This one as a clue as the studio in GLASGOW is named
Any guesses as to the year ?

The first one, with the tie pin behind the tie knot, was common in the  post WW1 and into the early 1920s. I have a photos of my father with that type of neckware circa 1922.

Thanks everyone .

Ive got some photos with family i do recognise but my grandmother s labelling system is hard to get used to
She put the name behind where the person is in photo .
So right to left becomes left to right

Also i know some are not allocated correct name as photo pof myself with younger sister is labelled as being older sister with me !

:-my grandfather had 7 brothers born between 1882 & 1910 in Cambuslang near Glasgow
He was born 1903 .
There are photos of his sisters in the box but none of the men in photos are labelled

My grandmother may not have met the brothers so wouldnt have been able to label them .
But i think the navy became his family
So a lot of the photos are sailors ...none of his brothers joined navy .

I ll post more later .

Have you considered putting a few of them up on one of the several "old Glasgow" websites (such as Lost Glasgow; Glasgow Memories; etc., etc),  where memories of old places and people are shared?

As Gadget said, the collar bar was fashionable in the 1920s.
