Brooks
« on: Tuesday 15 June 21 06:02 BST (UK) »
Hello all,
I hope that you and your loved ones are well.
I am looking for any information on my great x 2 uncle, Thomas Brooks b.1883 Loughborough to Charles 'Edwin' Brooks and Emma nee Mee. The family lived in Loughborough and had 11 children. Edwin's brother Albert b.1885 was my Great Grandfather.
It's thought that Thomas enlisted in ww1 and died in 1915, however I am yet to find any documents that match his age.
Also, any information on his extended family would be much appreciated, Charles  Mee b 1810 d 1884. Parents,  Joseph  Mee b 1756 d1852. Mother, Hannah Towe b 1775 d1857. Sarah Ann Brewin b Dec 29th 1821 d October  1891. Sarah Ann's  parents,  George  Brewin  and Elizabeth  Dudley,  b 1801 d 1839.

The Thomas that died in 1915, had a father names James. So I don't think this is your Thomas.

A large percentage of WW1 service records were destroyed in WW2.  You mention that he died during WW1 in which case have you looked at CWGC entries.  Many of these have family names added so may help in your search

Thomas Brooks enlisted 21/6/1899 in 3rd. South Lancashire Regiment.   Shown as born Loughborough - reg no. 6433 - and at the time was living in Liverpool, occupation Mattress Maker (per FindMyPast).

Maybe a casualty in the Boer war although I can see no confirmation of this.   Not on census in 1901 or 1911.

Thank you all for your replies.
Annette, I'll look further into the possibility that Thomas may have been a casualty in the Boar War.
He still remains a mystery.
Garstonite, thank you for the link, we've jet to research much of this branch so that's a fantastic start.

Hi,

I think this could be him in 1911,

Thomas BROOKES  28  b.Loughborough is living in Copt Heath, Knowle, Warwickshire.
In the household of Chas T Bygrove.

just 8 1/2 miles from his mother who is in Birmingham.

I can't be sure of any record of him after this.

Regards,
Daisy
