Leonora wife of the Reverend John Morgan. died 1764
« on: Tuesday 15 June 21 09:48 BST (UK) »
John Morgan M.A. was vicar of Braintree, Essex  from 1738 until his death

https://theclergydatabase.org.uk/jsp/DisplayAppointment.jsp?CDBAppRedID=173453

*. Patron details given as OHNIN,  widow, female.

Rector of Little Leighs, Essex  from 1750, and also Chaplain for Elizabeth Baroness Dowager Abergavenny
1753 he was appointed Chancellor of St Davids.

John Morgan died 1776 and asked to be buried with his wife at Braintree
Found transcript of burial for Leonora MORGAN 16 September 1764 wife of the Reverend Morgan.

Can anyone see a marriage for John MORGAN to Leonora ?
* Any candidates for  Mrs OHNIN ?   Might it be a mis-transcription of Olmius?

I think I have found their Marriage Allegation.

11 Oct 1720. John Morgan Clrk 23 of St Stepney Middlesex
And the Honourable Elianora Chichester of St James Westminster.age 15

I read Consent is from her mother Jane, Countess Levin,  of St James Westminster. But she signs Leven.

Link for those with ancestry to the document  (sorry itís long. I can never make the shrink link work) thank you Rosie for shrinking the link for me.

https://www.rootschat.com/links/01qqq/

but clip here of the consent.

My problem now is that I cannot identify the Chichester/Levens.

There is a complicated dynasty of a Melvilles and Leslies and The earl Leven in 1705 is as far as I can ascertain David Melville later Leslie.  His parents were George Melville and Catherine Leslie.  David inherited Earl Leven from his mother and Earl Melville from his father.
Wikitree has his wife as Anna Wemyss and some children none of whom are Elianora Chichester.

Thank you, yes I have that. That is how I got on to her. Then I found the burial as Leonore
(Essex record, so I have only the transcript so far)

Now I have this potential marriage.

But  ???  ??? It hasnít got me any further ahead!  You would think with a mother claiming to be a Countess it would now be a doddle!

As far as I have managed to find, they had no children. (At least none that survived to adulthood) as none mentioned in the Rev Johnís will. Have not found any baptisms either.

Yes.
It would have been good if Leonore/Elianora had written a will too!

Looking at the legal records; wills testaments etc on Scotlandís People brings up these records.  The 1730 one may be useful given that the names Jean/Jane are interchangeable.

1730 Jean Leslie, Countess of Leven, relict of David Leslie, formerly Melville, earl of Leven, residenter in South Leith [married name - maiden name not found]First Eik dated 28/04/1730; Testament Dative and Inventory.  Edinburgh Commissary Court.  CC8/8/93
