Death in Redbridge, Q1/2008
Jackson, Ada Ellen
Year of Birth 1915

Possible birth?
Dec 1915 Holborn 1b 955
Jones, Ada Ellen
mother's maiden surname Adams

Jones, Charles Henry, mother Adams, same quarter, 1b 956
So possibly twins

A double baptism confirms this (ancestry say in Deptford, I think not!)
19 January 1916
Born 20 Nov 1915
Charles Henry
Ada Ellen
Parents Thomas + Elizabeth Jones
8 James Gardens
Father a Carman

Eureka!
Using her date of birth in the free search, it looks like George and Ada are together in Islington in 1939!
Ada E Jackson, born 20 Nov, but one year out, 1916
Edwin Jackson, born 6 Oct, also a year out, 1907

Well done Jon. So the real George was living with Ada as a married couple in 1939. I wonder if they were together on 1937 - 1939 electoral registers?
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Hi
I haven't found George Edwin and Ada before the war on the electoral registers. They may yet pop up though.
They were living close to some Pontings in 1939, never knew there were so many!

John, is the Jackson-Jones marriage you mean the one in Islington in June qtr 1953?
George E Jackson to Ada E Jones / Ada E Jackson.
Rather than the earlier Lewisham one (George E A / Elma A)

jonw65, You are correct, I slipped up there, must be the 1953 marriage.

JOhn

On the 1939 register Ada's name has been crossed through in red and a note on the right says "Entry re-opened 26-4-55 see page 1  CR363a"
There is also a redacted 3rd entry in the same household.
Could 1955 be when NHS were notified of the marriage?

I've found a number of people whose year of birth is one year later than it should be. Often when their birthday falls later than the date of 1939 register.
It's as if George Edwin took his age in September 1939 (32) and then subtracted it from 1939, to get his year of birth, forgetting that he would be 33 by the end of the year. Same theory works for Ada.

Hi Lizzie
That's a good theory. Wish I'd thought of it myself! I guess it's what they would have done in the 1931 census (which we will never see!), only in 1939 they had to add in their birthday.

You are right about Ada in 1939, and there is a second entry for her. With the first one crossed through. It looks to me as though all the detail is exactly the same, so not sure why they did that. Unless they did it again in 1955 (but address would be different?)
The date may be when she told them she was now married. But she said she was Jackson and married in 1939!
Perhaps an expert on the 1939 Register (if there is one!) can help.
It's like everything else in this case, nothing can be simple!
Jon

The question of 2 entries for the same person came up on another thread a while ago, I did a bit of digging and came up with some answers.  I have put the link to my post on that thread below.
I must add I am not a 1939 Register expert  ;D
