There are children but the family are missing in 1891 and Mary J dies in 1893 and Thomas is back with his family in later censuses.  He dies in 1919, Runcorn.

Thanks Rosie  :)

Found them as ‘Clan’ so that rules him out. I wasn’t at all confident but with him apparently missing in 1891, I thought he might be leading a double life.

hello
ive just been looking at the Thomas Clare born in Runcorn, unless Thomas was leading a double life and he married in 1890 as a widow, whilst his wife Mary was still alive, im pretty sure its not the same Thomas, same goes for Margaret Armstong. If Margaret was married to William Clark in 1880 like i believed she had been, if he was still alive in 1887 when she had her second child, John Thomas Clare Clark, Margaret was clearly having children with another man, Thomas Clare and giving them her husbansd surname of Clark. I hoping that makes sense. All this is giving ma headache lol x

rosie99 thankyou.
George Clare born 1892-1918 (son of Thomas Care and Margaret) i have been looking at his war records, and Margaret his mum, remarried in 1910 to William Scott, they are together in 1911. That narrows the time frame down to Thomas Clare dying, last seen in 1891 census. I shall keep looking xx

Yes your correct, John Thomas Clare Clarks birth certificate doesnt name a father either, im presuming John Thomas was Thomas Clares biological son as Margaret used the Clare name for the child, but Margaret is written as Margaret Clark formally Armstrong on the certificate, which is strange because the marriage certificate of Thomas Clare to Margaret says she was a spinster, also Margaret married Thomas Clare under her maiden name of Armstrong rather than her 1st married name of Clark. Makes no sense to me at all. I dont know when Margarets first husband, William Clark, died but if it was after 1887, when John Thomas Clare Clark was born, then Margaret clearly had a child with Thomas whist she was married to another man. Margaret married William Robert Clark in 1881 in Stockton Durham.

What information does her marriage to William Clark give regarding his age, abode, occupation & details for his father

Where do you have them in 1881

I just have the index for them off ancestry. They were married in the 3rd quarter, so was after the 1881 census unfortunately  :'( they were married in Stockton in Durham, 1880. They are transcribed as Margaret Taylor Armstrong and William Robert Clark.
