Joan Watkins
« on: Saturday 19 June 21 07:34 BST (UK) »
Good Afternoon all, hope this finds you well. I am searching again for Joan Watkins who married a John Hall on the 18/4/1731 Gloucestershire area, apparently their is two marriages for John Hall the other Mary Gaye 22/5/1732 St. Mary Redcliffe, one of these couples is the parents of Dinah Hall 29/12/1738 bap. Syston Parish. :-\ I don't know if Joan died and then John Hall married Mary Gaye any suggestions would help, I have searched this family for so long, then I have a break and go on searching my other ancestors. :-[

Regards,
Janet :-\

Morning Janet  :)

Do you mean Bitton Parish
Dinah Hall
Baptism 31 Dec 1738
St Mary, Bitton, Gloucestershire
Father John Hall

Sorry, Ignore that, I can see the Syston baptism now though Ancestry have it transcribed wrongly. The parish at the top of the register page is listed as Oldlands? Hanhams Chapel

Good Afternoon rosie99 thanks for your prompt response to my inquiry. :-\ I am unsure who Dinah's mother is Mary Gaye or Joan Watkins their marriages to John Hall are very close, Mary's marriage to John Hall 22/5/1732 and Joans marriage to John Hall 18/4/1731, perhaps a different John Hall?? or did Joan die early after marriage and John Hall then married Mary Gaye. I will always wonder about this family, I have searched all morning. :-[

Regards,
Janet :-\

There was a baptism in Bristol for a William Hall on 22 Aug 1732 with parents John & Joan.  This would be after the second wedding

Hanham and Oldland were both hamlets and chapelries within the parish of Bitton.

Further info at http://www.bittonhistory.org.uk/buildings/chapels/

Hanham became a separate parish in 1848.

Siston is a separate parish, just to the north of Bitton.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thank you KG.  My first thought when I saw Syston in the original post was Syston, Leicestershire  :)
So Siston not Syston.

Just for info....  I have searched  the Gloucestershire Marriage Licence/Bonds on the Forest of Dean website

and there is a Licence dated 13 August 1732

for

Moses TOVEY - residence: Syson
Mary GAY - residence Syson
Submitted by Mr E Jones 16 November 1732

the marriage is on Ancestry - and this took place in 1732 at Cold Ashton, Holy Trinity Gloucestershire.

Moses Tovey - burial date 4 January 1733, Siston, Gloucestershire.
