LIGHT, Edward Parkhurst Prison 1841-43 help needed please
« on: Saturday 19 June 21 15:02 BST (UK) »
Hello,
young Edward Light, aged 13 , was convicted in Portsmouth  (housebreaking in Portsea) and sent to Parkhurst Prison from May 1840 until transported on the Mandarin in 1843 to VDL (Tasmania). I am searching for records which may indicate who his parents were, such as the Prison Governors Log.
I note Edward appears on the 1841 Census, and a prison list describes his connections as 'respectable'.

If anyone is able to assist with any information from Parkhurst it would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Jen

Good Evening bearkat,

Thank you for your PM.  I shall be delighted to help.

I have a fairly lengthy narrative for Edward LIGHT which I shall make available to Kyoto5 and should answer her questions.   However, his arrival in VDL started a second chapter in his criminal activities and my narrative ends in September 1861 with his Ticket-of-Leave being revoked.   Details beyond that point would be more than helpful.

If Kyoto5 would like to contact me via a PM we can then exchange email addresses and hopefully all the information we both need.

For the moment,

BAC3

Thanks Matthew,
I have these convict record details - just some inconsistencies with other information I have, so trying to track back through the Parkhurst record.
Appreciate your post though

I'm confused. How does Edward Light bic (Hants) in 1841 originate from Manchester with parents Thomas and Sarah Goodyer?
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott
