Identifying units - North Africa and Italy
« on: Saturday 19 June 21 22:38 BST (UK) »
I am trying to identify a man's units from airgraph Christmas cards, one sent from North Africa, the other from Italy. Unfortunately the gremlins are not allowing me to post attachments.

The first is "150 Coy [P?]C Sect 10 BNAF". It's the [P?]C bit I am unsure about.

The second is "2915 C[S?]U CMF". It's the C[S?]U bit I am unsure about.

I have a picture showing his cap badge, but again it won't allow me to attach it as "there is already an attachment of the same name", which is not the case.

BNAF = British North Africa Forces.
CMF = Central Mediterranean Forces.

Without seeing images I can't guess what the other abbreviations are.  Could you try renaming the cap badge image - using any random combination of numbers and letters - and try attaching it again?  It is possible that another Rootschatter uploaded an image with the same filename some time in the past.  As for the card images - are they too large to upload?

He is in the Royal Military Police.  in the first more than likely in 150 Provost Company .  The second 2915 Civil Labour Unit Pioneer Corprs (perhaps attached rather than transferred, other parts of his record may clarify that).

Another cap, unfortunately not showing a badge, and the same two units again from two different airgraphs.

Thanks, MaxD. I have sent for his service records, but they will probably take some time to arrive.

As an update, via the RMP Museum website, I have discovered a file that says he transferred from the Auxiliary Military Pioneer Corps on 21-6-1941 and was transferred back to the Pioneer Corps on 30-5-1942. It says his unit was CMP Vulnerable Points, although the photograph of him shows a TC arm badge for Traffic Control.

I now wonder if the P.C. in "150 Coy P.C." on the airgraphs refers to the Pioneer Corps rather than being Provost Company.

It says his unit was CMP Vulnerable Points, although the photograph of him shows a TC arm badge for Traffic Control.

At a guess, crossroads, junctions, roads subject to congestion or enemy attack, and so on could be "vulnerable points" - so traffic control would make sense.

GR2 seems to have it, there was indeed a 150 Pioneer Company in N Africa and Italy.
