Meaning of Aged fund house on 1851 census
« on: Monday 21 June 21 02:01 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know what the entry on the 1851 UK census under occupation "Aged fund House" means?
I have several examples in the village of Hatfield Peverel for men aged 70-80 and also some who are living in Almshouses. Does this mean the properties were for older villagers and supported  perhaps by the parish?

Many thanks

Perhaps those erected by Martha Lovibond in 1820. 4 tenements for 2 aged married couples and 2 single persons. Endowments of 18 shillings per week for former and 12 s. p.w. for latter.

Thank you.. I noticed that there were 2 households in a row on 1851 census Hatfield Peverell that were in Aged fund houses and one in Almshouse. The link to Hatfield Peverell was very interesting too. My ancestors!
