Obtaining RAF Records
« on: Monday 21 June 21 10:24 BST (UK) »
I am looking to obtain the RAF records of my deceased father-in-law.

I have now obtained his Death Certificate from the G.R.O.

Does anyone know I have to send the original or can I send a scanned copy?

I would appreciate your help - and any other advice you think that may be useful.

You will need to send a copy of the death certificate which would mean getting it from the GRO.

The above tells you how to apply.  Unless it has changed, it costs £30 and will probably take several months before you get the records.

As I didn't wish to send the original death certificate for my late father-in-law's records I obtained a copy from the GRO.

I've applied for many WW2 service records from  the MoD and used scanned copies  every time - never had a problem.

Be aware - the current waiting times can be very long

There is currently a problem with the RAF records search form - the link is broken on the https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records page. I have reported it.
