Which UK medals were engraved?
« on: Monday 21 June 21 13:52 BST (UK) »
I am sure I must be missing something obvious, but I can't find a helpful website to learn which UK medals were engraved with the serviceperson's details when issued.  Can anyone help?

My current belief is:
Awards and decorations - don't know.
General Service medals - don't know.
Pre Great War campaign medals - I think engraved, but not sure if all were.
Great War campaign medals - engraved.
WW2 campaign medals - not engraved.
Post WW2 medals - don't know.

Apart from adding to my general knowledge, I would like to know if my late father's medals (Korea pair and General Service with Cyprus clasp) would have been engraved; if not then I will never find them.

Philip

Yay!  So I will post on all the "lost medals" sites I can find in case they turn up one day.
Many thanks.

It is probably of no use but my Long Service & Good Conduct medal is engraved, when the citation was read out I thought they talking about someone else but the medal was given to me. Sorry I don't know the answer to your query.

That is useful, thank you.

So my current hypothesis, given the responses, is that as far as campaign and service medals are concerned, they were probably all engraved except for WW2 medals.

I would expect gallantry medals to be engraved, but I don't know for sure.
