Many thanks  for the background information Karen, and davecapps.

There do seem to be more sources that agree on Kasendorf in Kulmbach district being the birthplace of FCW Vogel.

The one I found which names the other Kasendorf is this:

https://www.berliner-intellektuelle.eu/entity?p1211+de

It's always interesting to have a portrait from before the age of photography.  I have long hoped to find one of JBG Vogel, as I am sure that there would have been one made at some time, but none has ever turned  up.

(In case it helps, I posted some information in answer to a query from another poster back in 2015:

Thank you for this.  He got around a bit then.  I think that if my JBG Vogel was not a relative of his then he most likely would have known him - in London he printed material in several languages, including German, for distribution on the continent.

The church books for the period you are looking for are in the Archive in Bamberg.
I know of a professional researcher that works in the archive. He has a fee of 25 Euros per hour.

I don´t how important this is for you, but if you are interested i can give you his mail address.

Just for the books.
I posted a query in a German forum asking where the church books from Kasendorf are kept.
This guy answered saying that they were in the Bamberg archive, that he was a professional researcher and could get you the info you want at 25€/hour

i can´t recomend him because I don´t know him, never heard of him.
I would advise you to try him out on one specific order, with a fix price.
ie. birth certificate Friedrich Christian Wilhelm Vogel, 30. April 1776

That shouldn´t take him so long

also always set a max limit.

sent you a PM with his mail address

Hi Galium,

you said that Friedrich attended the Lutheran Church. GenWiki states there are 2 churches for Kasendorf : Azendorf and Peesten . The church books for both are available by Archion.

Hope this helps, regards Peonie

Thank you Peonie.  I didn't know about Archion, and will have a proper look when I have learned a bit about reading Old German - there's a handy tutorial on familysearch which I have been working through.  (Genealogy leads you down all sorts of paths you didn't expect at the start)
