William James OSBORNE (husband of (Rose ) Mabel Ella OSBORNE )  :

kinky d ... I think you said earlier that you'd found (on e/roll), above couple at "9 Range View Road"  Auckland .. and sharing that address was (Mabel's son) Melville William HOLMES.

Yes, the OSBORNEs were on the 1949 - Mt. Albert e/roll, at that address,
BUT ... their names had also been removed from that roll. [This can be checked by going to "removal list" at end of roll where a person's electoral number can be searched for. ]

So in that same year > 1949 > William James OSBORNE, labourer and Rose Mabel Ella OSBORNE,  married, both residing at Huia, have been placed on the Waitakere No. 2 Supplementary electoral roll, (suggesting that they have only recently moved into that electorate).

William James OSBORNE (Husband of (Rose) Mabel OSBORNE :

Their 1919 marriage record lists him as being a "returned soldier" ???

He's also on 1919 (Auckland) electoral roll listed as a "soldier".

Not found him in NZ Army ???

Have briefly checked AUS to see if he'd signed with Australian Army ... no result as yet.
Otherwise there are some UK service records to be looked through.   (Sorry , don't have time just at present to do that.)

So pleased that kinky d is now on the right path, so easy to attach yourself to the wrong family and further down the track, find you have to start all over again.

Cheers

Yes, I'm so pleased for kinky also, KHP.    :)

I know we don't place total reliance on electoral or voting rolls (... or school records, ha ha  ;D ) but I had an inkling something was just not stacking up with the "other OSBORNE family".   And I'm glad that $$$ spent on the marriage record, were not in vain.

But THIS William James (bc 1896) is still giving us the "run around" in death ???  ;D
I'm thinking the FamilySearch "newspaper" notice of death, is "for real".    Maybe it was published in the "NZ Herald" (24 January 1953) ??

Wonder if there might also be school records for this man and his siblings (Lionel Wilfred b. 1900 and Janet Emily b. 1902).  They were living at Waitekauri (or near Waihi) in or before 1902.   ???

Hoping to find family links back to William James OSBORNE (b. 1896).

Here is the Will (1965) for Emily Janet SMITH (nee OSBORNE) (sister of ^ above William J. and of Lionel W. OSBORNE).

Have only briefly browsed it ... there is a beneficiary named as Phyllis Margaret OSBORNE (but it transpires that she was actually Phyllis Martha OSBORNE the wife of Lionel Wilfred OSBORNE (later divorced from him).

Only one available is for Janet:

Looks like a Janet Emily Osborne, attended Ramarama School on the 27 May 1910.  Mr J Osborne was put down as the parent, and they were living in Kingsland Road.  The last school Janet attended was Edendale.  Left school as was going to Town.  (Probably Auckland). Birth year has been recorded as 1903.  As we know, we take things with a grain of salt.

There was no indication of the last day of school, to say how long she attended, so perhaps the family were moving around.

Cheers

Thanks for doing that, KHP.    :)

Was interested to see if she was in the custody of her father Joseph, as he re-married 2 years after her mother died.     [She went on to marry a farmer and lived at Riverhead where her brother, father and stepmother also resided.]

Helpful info ... and thanks again.
