Would like your opinion please
« on: Friday 25 June 21 12:27 BST (UK) »
William Charles Trott born on the 30th May 1841 in Bristol. (Have Birth certificate) Parents John and Charlotte Trott. On the 18th October 1866 William marries Elizabeth Coole 1844-1940. (have marriage certificate)  On the 1871 census William and Elizabeth are living at 10 Syduey ? Row Bedminster and William is a Ship Carpenter, they are childless with a Niece staying with them.   By 1891 Elizabeth is a widow living with her sister Matilda Coole in Bristol.  For years I have been looking for either William or Elizabeth on the 1881 census with no luck.  Also as you can guess I have been searching for a death for William, the only information I can find is on family trees a death in 1877 which I have had doubts about, the death is in the name of Charles Trott but he could be using his second name.  So I thought the only way is to obtain a death certificate which I have done and I am no where forward.
The certificate details are:
Charles Trott died on the 4th May 1877, age 34, occupation A Groom, widow of deceased present E A Trott, residence 11 Norfolk Street Bristol.

Yes, he may of changed jobs and moved to Bristol but again have doubts

I can find no other death record on line, at one stage I thought maybe the couple went to sea together and William died abroad.

Would appreciate your input.

Thanking you in advance

There is this entry for a William C Trott aged 67 occ carpenter - admission to Islington WH on 13.1.1904.  Shown as Nonconformist

The images say he was born 1843, so aged 61, not 67.

He may possibly be the William Trott (Frott on FindMyPast in 1901) born c1844 Torrington, Devon.  In both 1891 & 1901 he is at Morton Road, Islington:

1891: aged 47, Shopfitter b Torrington, Devon
1901: aged 57, Joiner, wood & glass b Torrington, Devon

In 1881 he is William J Trott aged 37, Joiner, living at Rotherfield Street, Islington with wife Maria born Plymouth.

A William Trott died in Islington in 1908 aged 63, buried 17 Jan 1908 Islington (per deceased online).

Sorry not having got back to you but busy day yesterday.

William was born in  Bristol although the family did come from Somerset. But certainly will not rule him out, right occupation, year of birth only 2 years out.  Has his wife as Maria which I will look into.  Thank you for your opinions.

The William who was married to Maria died in 1883, not married long looks like he married Maria Elizabeth Marchant in 1879, father George Trott so this William can be ruled out.

Does anyone think there a possibility that this is Elizabeth in 1881 mis-transcribed?
It fits with her age - birth place - a widow (if William died in 1877) and occupation nurse.
At the moment I cannot see any other reference to this Eliza Knott

One to rule out

1881

Eliza A Trott 36 widow nurse
with 3 sons

I was wondering if she was the E A Trott on the death certificate but this one is a widow in 1871 also.

Believe husband was Arthur who died in 1869.

Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Yes Millie, I had come across her way back and ruled her out.  Eliza Knott is a possibility in one of the census they had her down as Scott.  Oh why did they not put her full name down on the death certificate.  As far as I know she did not have a middle name. On the 1891 census Elizabeth is down as a professional nurse.

Thank you

Hi,

I can't see them in 1881 but this could be William's death.

In 1871 they were living in Bedminster, Redcliff, Bristol,

Death

William TROTT    JQ 1885    Bedminster    5c  483
Age:  46

Burial

09 April 1885
Bristol, St Mary Redcliffe, Gloucestershire
William TROTT
Age:  46
Abode:  173 Clarence Road

Or is this the William that was married to Maria?

Regards,
Daisy
