Lucy WATERFIELD b. Abt 1806
« on: Friday 25 June 21 22:14 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for a relationship between this young lady, Lucy, apparently born about 1806 and the Waterfield family in the Langtons.

I have a marriage between Nathaniel Moore and Sarah Ann Tilley at St George's Church, Leicester on June 14th 1865. Nathaniel's father was Joseph and his MMN from the GRO was Waterfield.

I haven't been able to push Lucy back any further than that although there is a suggestion her father's name may have been John.

The reason for this interest? Well, Sarah Ann'e maternal grandmother was Catherine Waterfield (1788 - 1875) of Thorpe Langton.

Many thanks for your thoughts

Cheers Alan

Joseph & Lucy married 1837 per freebmd.    She was 27 so birthyear 1810

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QP4W-72L2

1851 birthyear = 1809   1861 = 1814  1871 = 1812   1881 = 1811

Died 1887 aged 76

The only clue to exactly where in Leicester she was born is the 1861 where it says St Mary's - all others just say Leicester

Like so many other trails this one throws up confusions! It now looks as if there were two Lucy Waterfields in the area around the same time. I've now seen a marriage record (November 11th 1837)   at St Margaret's Church but to an Edward Haddon. This Lucy's father was also called John!!

So, two families - one lived in Bedford Street, the other in Albion Street. I haven't found a baptism for a Lucy - although a Lucinda Waterfield - father John, mother Eliz. - was baptised somewhere in Leicester on October 12th 1807.

Maybe this will be a link which can't be made.

What I'm looking for is the origins of these fathers. Both were named John. One John (the father of Lucy who married Joseph Moore) was a gardener. The other John (the father of Lucy who married Edward Haddon) was a framework knitter.

Given that Nathaniel Moore (the son of Joseph and Lucy) married Sarah Ann Tilley and that Sarah Ann's grandmother was Catherine Waterfield from Thorpe Langton, my basic question is: Did either - or both - of the above mentioned John Waterfields also come from the Langtons.  If one - or both - did, then there is a family (cousin) connection between Nathaniel and Sarah Ann as well as a marriage.

Lucy Waterfield Hadden

1861 census states born Loughboro there is a Lucy Waterfield baptized Loughboro 16 September 1817 to John and Mary. This fits with her age given on the census. As far as I can see Edward Hadden and Lucy had one child a daughter named Sarah in 1841 registered Nottinghamshire

1841 census Hadden is transcribed as Hadder , Edward is 30, Lucy 24 with them are a Sarah Howard 30 with her son John age 2. They are in St Mary's Nottinghamshire. None born in County.

Would naming patterns help
Joseph Moore and Lucy had children - John 1839, George William 1840, Nathaniel 1842, William Henry 1844, John Thomas 1847 and Elizabeth Ann 1850.
Usually first son named for his father, first daughter for her mother etc.
