Hello,

I'm trying to find the parents of

George Wilson, born about 1806, married Alice Cottam 1838 in Clitheroe.
Due to findmypast his father is John Wilson.
I am pretty sure George has died in 1857.

I am also looking for further proof / documents abouts George's (year of) birth

Thanks for your support
Thomas

Hello,
I can’t access your links but here are the marriage details:

October 20th 1838
George Wilson, bachelor, shoemaker. Parish of Whaley  Father John Wilson, miller
Alice Cottam, widow, Clitheroe. Father John Warbrick , Labourer
Witnesses William Backhouse and Mary Warbrick.

I presume ‘Whaley’ is Whalley.

Thank you! I am sorry about the links. I m not really familiar with rootschat.

I ve got their marriage.

And I ve got their kids:
Harriet 1844, Moses 1847, Emma 1850, David 1852

George might have had the following brothers and sisters:
Grace (1802-1809), Mary (1803), Josef (1805), Richard (1807), Grace (1809), Thomas (1811), James (1815), John (1816), Ann (1821), Catherine (1823).
However, they were all born in Ribchester. That might still be correct, or not?

I ve found some trees which name as George's parents:
John Wilson (16 nov 1781 in Clitheroe - 1868 in Clitheroe)
Ann/Anne Hyde/Hide (about 1781 in Bailey - 2 jan 1865 in Clithero)

I couldn't find any document as the missing link between John / Ann and George.

I'm very much interested about Johnto go further into the past.

These do look favourable in that they have a daughter Grace which seems important to your George as they name two daughters Grace. However the censuses show John and Ann:

1841 507/12/16 where John is a Book keeper

1851 2256/334/46 where John is a Cotton Twister

The marriage shows father John is a Miller. :-\

* A James Wilson had a wife Aloisa according to transcription of baptism of their son, George baptised at SS Peter & Paul in 1796. Godmother Ann Swarbrick. There were several baptisms to parents James & Ann at SS Peter & Paul before & after George.
Swarbrick/Swarbreck/Warbreck are surname variants. A locally common name.

Birthplace for Ann may be Barley, a village a few miles east of Clitheroe.
If those baptisms at Ribchester were George's siblings then either John or Ann or both were Catholic. If either was born into a Catholic family there may be no surviving baptism register.
John Wilson is such a common name it's like searching for a needle in a haystack.

Is this their marriage at St. Mary, the Virgin 1802?
John Whilson, weaver, parish of Blackburn
Nanny Hyde, spinster, same parish.

A Grace Hyde had a daughter, Elizabeth baptised at SS Peter & Paul, Ribchester 1829, father was a J. Whalley. A James & Elizabeth Hyde had 3 children baptised there 1813-1829. An early entry in the baptism register was James Hyde, son of Thomas & Maria/Mary 1784.
