Help to decipher Will handwriting please
« on: Sunday 27 June 21 23:00 BST (UK) »
Would appreciate help in deciphering the word highlighted on the image attached, please.
Also in the Will is mentioned a Dr of Saros and Surrogate - I can't find anywhere that explains what that is?
Thank you.

It's imprimis, Latin for "firstly"

Thank you GR2. I got most of the letters but was not familiar with this latin word. It looked like 'us' on the end to me, and I didn't see the first 'm'. Will remember this - first time I've seen this word in A Will. I've been transcribing a few Wills and so enjoy the process. Thanks again.

Also GR2, are you familiar with the term "Dr of Saros and Surrogate"? - please see the image attached.
I believe this section reads...
Proved at London the 11th Feby 1839 before the worshipful Herbert James Dr of
Saros and Surrogate by the Oaths of Amelia Joseph in the will written Josephs/wise
the relict and Morris James Harris the Executors to whom admon was granted having
been first sworn duly to admon
London Curtain Road Shoreditch

...Dr of Laws and Surrogate...

...Joseph (in the will written Josephs)...

...to whom adm[inistrati]on was...

...duly to adm[iniste]r...

Are you sure his relict is Amelia Joseph Wise?  That word looks to me to begin wid_, suggesting it might be a contraction of widow.

ADDED:

It can be difficult to distinguish between L and S in this hand.

horselydown86 thank you! Laws makes much more sense. And you are quite correct it reads Widow (contracted) I thought it was Wis with a superscript e - but couldn't work out what it could be a contraction for. It's been a least a year since I transcribed any wills so I need to get my eye back in :)
Thanks again for your help.
