There are a few workhouse entries for a Percival Gregg in Liverpool, all born in 1885, in the years 1906, 1907, and 1911.

In 1906, he was single, a mat maker, and his address was 20 Taliesin St, and he had a brother William that lived at 89 Barry St., Kirkdale.
Admitted on 24 Aug 1906 Discharged 01 Sept 1906.

On 19 Jan 1907 he was again admitted.  His address given is 38 Pembroke Place, was still single and a mat maker, and the column headed "nearest relative"* lists Mrs. McDonald, at 20 Taliesin Street.  He was discharged on the 24th of the same month. However, there is another entry for admission, for the 24th, for a blind Percival, no address, whom was discharged 25 Apr. 1907, so it looks like he either went right back or was discharged and moved to another facility on the 24th. This second admission gives a relative as brother Robert who lives in London, address unknown.

*Note: the column for "nearest relative" had very few entries that showed a relationship, such as sister, mother, etc.  Mrs. McDonald may just have been a roominghouse lady that he had resided with, but still worth checking out!

On 28 Jan 1911, he was again admitted.  This time he is married , mat maker, and the column headed "where slept last night" the entry was 20 Talieson St.
Discharged 01 Feb 1911.

Two weeks later, he was admitted again. This time, there is  more information:
Birth date: 15 Mar 1885
Admission: 16 Feb 1911
Discharge: 28 Mar 1911
Occupation: mat maker
Cause of seeking relief:  Dest. and blind  (dest. probably = destitute)
Address: 58 Byles St
Relative: Wife, Catherine E. at 58 Byles St.

And a warm welcome to Rootschat!

thanks for the workhouse records with regards to Percival's vision problems.  I have tracked all of Percival's siblings, through their adult lives.  This includes Robert in London, and William who raised a large family in Liverpool.  Where I lose him is about the time his son John who was my father was born.  From comments that others have made about the newspaper clipping, it seems that Catherine reported that she last saw him in 1913.  That is why I thought that he might have been able to find shelter in an institution for the blind, if such a place existed.

The death records that you have found in Wales are for a Catherine Ellen Jones.  Should they not read Catherine Ellen Gregg?

I see the death record for Catherine E Gregg in Wales July 1943, and the newspaper clipping does support this death record.  My poor father lived his whole life believing that the reason he had been placed in the orphanage was that his mother was sick and died.  We never expected to find that she had lived another 30 years.  Thank goodness my father never learned the truth.  I have ordered Percival and Catherine's marriage certificate.  I did some research on Olive M Jones, but I want to learn Catherine's father's name before I go to far with that.  Hopefully the orphanage records can be located, as this could help us to understand the situation better.  I would really like to find Percival.

Can't help wondering if something like this happened to Percival in 1913.
