1939 Puzzle
« on: Thursday 01 July 21 12:38 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have been looking for a lad born October 1922 so he was only 17 at the time of the register, there is only mum, dad & gran at home in Wembley, he was an only child so doubt they would allow him to join up so young. He died in 1976 so should be showing on the register?. He was at home in the 1947 electors roll as a service voter, so where could he be, maybe at university somewhere?  Wonder if he will show up when his 100th birthday passes?. In the register his mother Alice is transcribed as Alkice and his gran Alice Collin is Colkin, no wonder you can't find people.

Apologies for this - I'm assuming that you have only seen the transcription for the 1939 Register.  The surname Colkin is correct.  Alice Emily Ethel Hopper married Leonard W Colkin in 1945.  Alice said to be born in 1917.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Wrong family! They are living in Wandsworth in 1939.
The OP has stated that the family in question are living in Wembley in 1939.

Thanks Carol, you got them, they moved from Oldham down to Wembley where Donald was born and the grandmother died there in 1942, they retired to Essex. Donald was a clerk in London and spent weekends in Essex, all cremated at Colchester. Donalds funeral was arranged by the landlord of the pub as he had no family left. I wanted to find his military service but have no idea what he was in.
Sad that he isn't remembered less than 50 years after his death

If he wasn't redacted at home, could he have been an evacuee?
