Douglas was a Seamen in the Merchant Service he was last heard of sailing to Australia in 1860, after there is sign of him, cant find a Marriage , Death etc, he didnt come back England after sailing to Australia, its a mystery as to what happened to him.
maybe someone can shed some light on this.

Hi,

Do you have the name of the ship he was on in 1860 and which British Colony he was intending to migrate to?
The British Colonies were:
New South Wales, Tasmania, Western Australia, South Australia, New Zealand,  Victoria and Queensland.

There was a Douglas ROBSON, crew on the Ellen Lewis, 30 March 1861, when quite a few of the crew were signed off at that date, possibly in Sydney, but could well be Newcastle NSW.   Possibly a coastal trader, a barque.

Further info could be available at NSW State Archives, Kingswood.
Registers of Discharged Seamen, 1859-1864; Series: 13282; Reel: 3680

The Seaman has signed, so if our OP already has sample of his handwriting, perhaps it could be compared to the snip attached.

Had you seen this enquiry?
Is it the same man?
Left in 1858 per Diadem.

It does not state whether crew or passenger.
Very often, but not always, when an advertisement like this appears, it relates to a death in the family at home.

Sorry Sue but yes i think that he is one and the same, his Sister Jane and Brother Armstrong could be the people wondering what happened to Douglas.
