The PRICE name ultimately derives from the Welsh descendant term "ap REES".
Such meaning "out of REES".

[c.f. Scots Gaelic "mac" DONALD" or "nic" DONALD".
Such  meaning "son" or "daughter" of DONALD.]

Worth keeping in mind for your further (backward) research?
[Advise keeping an eye out for RICE ...]
WHITTLEY - Donegore, Ballycraigy, Newtownards, Guernsey, PALI
WHITTLE - Dublin, Glenavy, Muckamore, Belfast; Jamaica; Norfolk (Virginia), Baltimore (Maryland), New York
CHAINE - Ballymena, Muckamore, Larne
EWART, DEWART - Portglenone, Ballyclare
McAFEE, WALKER - Ballyrashane

Thank you TheWhuttle,

Our first Price is recorded in Comber, County Down, in 1845, when his first child was born.
I have never entertained the idea of going further back - as I think it nigh on impossible.
His wife - Mary Gibson - perhaps - but how to see records that early?

Regards
Jean Price
