Royal Navy badges 1860s
« on: Saturday 10 July 21 13:18 BST (UK) »
I am studying great grandad's naval records again, and am wondering what the badges mentioned would have been?
The second clip is right at the end of the record, and the medal mentioned at the end is, I presume, the one now in my possession.
(Sorry, they have run together a bit!)

Good conduct badges were award in the navy and after June 1860 they were awarded 3, 8 and 13 years which is close but perhaps not close enough for your record.

So we can assume these were good conduct badges? He actually joined in Oct 1853, and turned 18 in March 1854, retiring 20 years later. The first few years were spent on the Australian station, arriving home in Nov.1857, if that makes any difference.

Yes, it is very common for the words "good conduct" to be omitted in an RN record.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
