I have seen some family trees on Ancestry for Ethel's family.  You will need to have a look as it is all geographically complicated.  Alexander was in the Royal Engineers and worked for the ordnance survey.  They were in England, Scotland and Ireland - all census links are on those trees.

William Henry Bishop was also in the royal engineers (ethels first marriage)

1851 has Fanny Cross aged 23, marinser's wife, in St John's Place with  Henry aged 3 and Rosannah aged 2

Like  you can;t find Fanny/Rosannah on GRO but here's Henry, suggesting that's the correct marriage
