I think that Gadget’s suggestion of “meningitis” is a distinct possibility. Assuming that the death record was written up by a clerk using the medics certificate as their source, they may have misinterpreted the doctor’s handwriting. Certainly convulsions indicate an issue with the brain, and acute meningitis would have been a very likely cause.

What was the age of this person.  Child or adult?

I did wonder if the first letter was a badly formed R, and could be an attempt to write rachitis - which is an older term for rickets (which can cause convulsions).
