Maresfield
« on: Monday 12 July 21 09:45 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know where I can find a copy of the Maresfield PRs please?
I've tried Ancestry, both normal search and the card catalogue, FindMyPast, Familysearch, both normal search and the catalog, Sussex OPC, even archive.org and the Sussex Family History Group.
Help!
I'm actually looking for the baptism of a Louisa Farrant who, the censii tell me was born in Maresfield about 1839.
Thanks so much,
Keith

Thanks heaps for that, I really do appreciate it. However I'd really like to get access to the PR images or at least an accurate transcript, as I've found there are siblings for Louisa. Darn. And there are likely to be burials as well. I've found Louisa's parents and siblings in the 1841 and 1851 censii, so I'm gradually filling in the details.
Again, thanks, Keith

Think you will have to make a visit to The Keep at Falmer when it reopens, where there are copies of the register online.  Is that possible?

Siblings of Louisa all baptised at Maresfield:

Emma Sarah 6 Sep 1835
Janet 9 Sep 1838
Catherine 19 Dec 1841
Anna Maria 25 May 1845

Janet & Anna Maria both appear in the GRO index.

Friend married Mary Henty 8 May 1834 at St Michael Lewes.  I think you should be able to find that St Michael's PR is available on FamilySearch.

SFHG do have the transcripts of Maresfield and are generally reliable.  Sometimes the handwriting on the original register can be appalling!

Burials at Framfield:
Friend Farrant aged 79 4 Sep 1849 ( - he left a will, proved South Malling 30 Oct 1849 ref PBT 2/1/13/221A - can be viewed on the FamilySearch site here:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-659N-HP?i=285&cat=173636 - quite short )

Friend Farrant aged 21 1 Mar 1852

Ann Farrant's will can be viewed here pr 21 Feb 1854 ref PBT/2/1/13/378:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HY-659J-SF?i=372&cat=173636
much longer and with more family names in it.

Burial at Buxted
Friend Farrant aged 64 6 Dec 1867 - this seems to be Louisa's father.

Hope that helps.

Nell
