Athy Museum Shackleton
« on: Tuesday 13 July 21 03:58 BST (UK) »
HI Everyone
Has anyone had success with research  with the above museum.  I have emailed them, put a message on facebook and posted on their page last November! Is there any other way to contact them possibly OR if anyone is visiting there perhaps they could ask for me.  Kind regards Dianna from Sydney Australia

They're also on Twitter and Instagram - have you tried these?

Most museums in Ireland have been shut for the past 9 months or more due to Covid. The main ones have recently re-opened, albeit with some restrictions on visiting, but I suspect that many may have a bit of a backlog of queries to work through.

Lots of references to Shackleton here from circa 1700s

Hi Everyone thanks for your replies also the link to the Irish newspapers which I have subscribed to for a month to start off with.  I have been speaking with the Shackleton Museum and someone there maybe able to give me some direction.

At least I found (finally) a picture of the Town Hall which was?? actually the old court house where my Michael Byrne may have been convicted.  I will try if possible to see if someone there can take some photos of the inside for me.  Would love to see (possibly??) what my ancestor saw, would be fun.

Anyway it will be interesting to see what I can find in the newspaper for that time period.  Thanks to everyone.  Kindest regards Dianna

OP,

Here's a lovely view of Athy Museum Shackleton with his memorial statue taken from Google StreetView.
