I'm doing some research into names on a local war memorial and am trying to sort out the family of William Henry Croft Wood, CSM 1/7 Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment, who died at a casualty clearing station in France on 24 July 1916.
William was born in Kensington in 1886 to George and Annie Wood. Although he is registered as simply Wood, he was baptised at St Jude's, Kensington as Woodcock-Wood. On his birth registration, his mother's maiden name is given as Beacham, but by the time his brother Francis Walter was born in 1888, it is spelt Beauchamp, as it is on his sister Annie Harriet's birth registration in 1890.
It looks as if the mother is Annie Beacham, born at Allesley in 1861, the daughter of William Henry Beacham, a farmer at Brownshill Green and Harriet Townsend, born Gilks. I cannot find a marriage for her and George Wood, Woodcock or Woodcock-Wood.
On the 1891 census, Annie and her children, plus seven servants, are living at 28 Harrington Gardens, South Kensington. There is no sign of George, although Annie says she is married. I can't find them on the 1901 at all, but by the time we get to 1911, Annie, now saying she is a widow, is living in a very ordinary terraced house in Coventry with her two sons. I would love to know what happened in the intervening years, but am drawing a complete blank and would be grateful for any help.
Thank you.
