Hmm.

In 1881, Annie was at home with her family in Warwickshire. I just checked that.

I can't search by address on the site I am on, but I believe you can on the 'other' one.

It's looking like 28 Harrington Gardens wasn't actually built in 1881.  Lots online about the estate it's on, which is apparently quite important in the grand order of things, so I guess that's a dead end.

CORRECTION: Francis Walter Wood born 1887, not 1888. Baptised at St Jude's, South Kensington, 12 September 1887.

Either way, I've lost sight of him after 1911.

Well, I've found the George Wood who died in 1892.  In 1881 he was living in Lothair Road Ealing in a property much less extravagant than Harrington Gardens.  He was a widower. His Scottish wife had died in 1880.

I'm going to take some convincing that he is our man.

I am not trying to convince you that this is the George Wood in question, but it is worth noting that he was a wealthy man and owned several properties, including Hawnby Manor and estate in Yorkshire which he purchased in 1878. He's just a possibility.
