What constitutes a "post" on this site?

New members can't respond to private messages until they have posted 3 times.
What constitutes a post?
Starting off a new subject thread - like this one?
Or posting a comment on an existing subject thread?

Personally, I find it best to reply to an existing post!
That way any interested parties can see it and maybe contribute.

A Private Message is just that - Private. Meaning only 1 person gets to see it.
I rarely communicate using PMs ;D

Thanks to all responders - in case you were wondering I'd already received a PM following my reply to an existing post....an actual contact with a relative by marriage made already! :-)
