Roderick McLeod born abt 1847 and his siblings
« on: Thursday 15 July 21 18:04 BST (UK) »
What I have discovered is that Roderick's sister Christina was born in Dingwall, Ross-shire 28 Dec 1852.  The image gives the family in 1858, they emigrated to Australia.  The father's name is usually given as Roderick McLeod not Robert.  The mother on this list is the step-mother Bridget Gavin born in Ireland.  The children were all born in Ross-shire with father Roderick and mother either Christina McDonald or Margaret McDonald.

Can anyone who has access to the 1851 census find this family (excluding Christina born in 1852) and supply birth locations and the age of Roderick's 1st wife.  These would be the approximate ages in 1851.

Roderick McLeod age 29 father
Christiana or Margaret age unknown mother (maiden surname McDonald)
Margaret age 9
Roderick 6
Harriet 4
Norman 2

Lochbroom Ross-shire and Evanton has also been suggested.

Marriage of Roderick and Bridget in Co. Mayo.  Perhaps they were in Ireland in 1851.  Roderick was Free Church, Bridget was Roman Catholic, the children Church of Scotland.

Debra, his daughter Christina was born in Dingwall, Ross-shire on Dec 28, 1852 according to her gravestone in Queensland, Australia.  It is unlikely that his first wife Christina McDonald was dead as she was Christina's mother.  So no reason to believe he or his kids would be over in Ireland in 1851.

There is a Roderick McLeod visitor aged 32, a shepherd, in the village of Leckmelm, Lochbroom in 1851.  But the kids have to be somewhere.

Debra, thanks for the marriage and the birth info for Margaret.  Kiltearn is also close to Evanton which is where Roderick may have been born in 1847 (unfortunately, I can no longer find the source of that info).  About them all being in Ireland, I have read Roderick's story and he states that his mother died when he was young and then his father went to Ireland eg. after 1852 before 1858.
