Adding reg Nos - Philip No 1053 in 87th, Daniel No 1054 in 87th, John No 32 in 61st.

No location for pension issue on John's discharge in 1845 so I don't know where he went.

Seeking: RC baptism Philip Murray Feb ish 1814 ? nr Chatham Kent.

Josey, I have been looking again for the 2 girls from the 1851 census who are children from James' second marriage.
There is a possible for them and their mother remarried in

•   Jean REID – wife – 34 - born Ireland
•   Elizabeth MURRAY – 15 - stepdaughter – born Perth, Flax spinner
•   Mary Ann MURRAY – 13 - stepdaughter – born Aberdeen, Flax spinner
Milligan - Jardine – Glencross – Dinwoodie - Brown: (Dumfriesshire & Kirkcudbrightshire)
Clark – Faulds – Cuthbertson – Bryson – Wilson: (Ayrshire & Renfrewshire)
Neale – Cater – Kinder - Harrison: (Warwickshire & Queensland)
Roberts - Spry: (Cornwall, Middlesex & Queensland)

Aha, thank you. I bought the actual image and John Reid is Chelsea Pensioner 87th Foot so these are highly likely to be James' children. Thank you. I will definitely see if I can follow them up. By co-incidence, James snr's brother Philip [my ancestor] was in Dundee in 1846 when his son was born.

I didn’t have time to look, but it should be possible to find a marriage for John Reid and a Jane/ Jean, between James Murray’s death and 1861.

I did actually just look and downloaded 2 images for likely area marriages but both brides were spinsters. There were no marriages of John Reid with bride indexed under Jane/Jean Murray.

In Scotland, i would not expect her to remarry as Murray, but under her maiden name.

Which names have you tried? Did you try Jane ROLLO 1856 in Dundee?

Sorry for delay - got a phone call!! Thank you , yes I did, 1 Jul 1856 Jane Rollo was 24 millworker spinster, John 26 widower flax worker; also Rattray 21 Nov 1858 Jean Crichton 21 flax spinner spinster, John 18 joiner.

Maybe I'd be better trying to follow Elizabeth & Mary Ann?

What about Jane Munro in Aberdeen St Nicholas in 1859?

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
