Marriage possibly in Marshfield c1815
« on: Friday 16 July 21 13:33 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have a George FIDO born in 1816 in Marshfield Gloucestershire and I know his parents were Thomas William Fido and Anne Phillips, but I cannot find their marriage. I would also like to know where Thomas William was born  possible Marshfield 1793.

Many thanks

David

Are you sure that's his parents? The baptism record could be interpreted as mother Ann Fido, father Thomas Williams alias William Thomas.  The record of his first wedding also shows his father as William Thomas, i.e. with Thomas as the surname. The second wedding does have father Thomas Fido but, given the baptism record, I think the first is more likely true.

I agree with David, the image of the baptism in the parish register reads "George natural son of". As Ann FIDO is written in the box for surname and father Thomas WILLIAMS alias William THOMAS (carpenter), I would suggest they were not married. There is also a note in the margin "Sworn to him at the Cross- Hands" (not sure of this last word).
