General Info please

I have been trying to help a poster re the below link and trying to piece together William Thomas Lamkins whereabouts from 1877-1889. It appears he spent time abroad but then was in the uk from 1882-1889. I believe he was in the Army reserve corp? Would this involve him being based at home or from a barracks somewhere. The last page of his military career can be found on FindMyPast. Any advice welcome.

Per the army file he was in Nova Scotia from May 1878 to November 1880, then Gibraltar to December 1880, then South Africa until March 1882, then on "Home" service in the British Isles until his transfer to the Reserve in 1883 and discharge in 1889. As a reservist from 1883 he would be able to lead a civilian life.

The medical record shows that he was in Dublin in 1882.
