Your first 1921 census look up
« on: Sunday 18 July 21 13:57 BST (UK) »
Hi guys,
Not much doing today as it's so hot....
So I was wondering who will be your first person to look up on the 1921 census when released in the new year and maybe why ? Will it help you break through a research brick wall that has been a stumbling block for the last ten years or even more ??
Mine will be two Hunt sisters Emma & Elizabeth Ann born 1878 & 1881, both orphaned and went into the Muller homes , last seen on 1911 census in and around Surrey working in service. Would love to know where they went onto.
Look forward to reading yours...........
Stay safe.

My great gran in St Helen Auckland, Co Durham would be my first port of call where she gives "Islington, London" as her birthplace, but I may save that and instead firstly see my 7 year old grandfather at East Street, Rochford, Essex, and his paternal gran in Letheringham, Suffolk.

Hi Sandiep,
Yes I did, money well spent, but in 1921 they will be their early 40's.
I have one of their death certificates but interested as to where they were in 1921 , the other orphan either married or passed away by 1939.
Thanks again.

My maternal grandparents. I thought I would have to look them up separately as they married on 16th April 1921, but have just realised that the census was taken in June that year, not late March or first week in April as most 19th century censuses were. So they would be newly-weds. I have their marriage cert so I know their residences before marriage, but interested to know where they set up home.

I shall be looking for my maternal great grandfather's mistress.  He left his wife and set up home with her.

She was known as Florence Emily Lloyd but went by the name of Emily.  She appears as Emily England on great grandfather's death certificate when he died in 1920.  I am hoping I will get a more precise place of birth.

They never married even though they could have after his wife died in 1918.

That's reminded me - an early look will be the older sister of the same grandfather. She was divorced by her husband soon after the 1911 census, but did not marry the man named as co-respondent until shortly after her former husband died in 1933. Maintenance would have been cut off if she had married earlier, but obviously stopped when he died. I would be interested to see whether all the children were with her and her lover.

First on my list will be my oh-so-elusive Paternal Grandfather William James Wilson (1860 - 1937).

I suspect that nothing will have changed since the 1911 Census; which was a great disappointment…

However, on the 1921 Census they had to give their age in years and months, and that might help to pin him down to a definite birth date!

Romilly 😆
