Anyone heard of the place Hely's Court, Dublin??
« on: Monday 19 July 21 14:26 BST (UK) »
Hi,

My father and his siblings were born in the 1930's and 1940's and registered in Hely's Court, Dublin South City No 1 (on birth certificate) but this area has long gone off the maps and has most likely been renamed.

I am just wondering if there are any people out there that might possibly know or heard of the area? There is a similar named one called Healy's Court but I don't think this is it as on all 6 of my relatives birth certs it has Hely's Court.

Thanks for any help.

Elaine

The censuses show Healy’s Court though near Francis Street.

Sorry it’s all a bit bitty.

There is also Healy’s Court, Irwin Street in censuses. Maybe the one you think is wrong?

Thom's Directory 1935 show Healy's Court off Francis Street, so south city, no sign of a Hely's court (or Hely's anything) in Dublin city listings

I dont see any mention of Irwin street in the 1930s

The two separate Hely/Healy courts are shown in the 1914 directory - off 1 Irvine street and off Francis street, but the Irwin street one disappears from listings by the 1920s

Irwin Street is just north of Bow bridge and not far south of Heuston/Kingsbridge railway station

p.s. believe the Irwin street one is also too far west to be South City no. 1

Thanks all, you've all found what I had and if it was Healy's Court I'd say its the one off Francis Street but all six birth certificates say Hely's Court, that us the reason why I positive its right.

Thanks again.

Hely's and Healy's were used interchangeably for both places.
