Best place to find grave info
« on: Monday 19 July 21 14:31 BST (UK) »
Hi again

I am looking to see where I can get grave locations for 2 people that died in Aberdeen

Alfred Carson, d 22/2/65
James Frazer "Fraser" Allen d Feb 1988?  (can't see exact date in SP) but Newspaper has an article on 1st Mar 1988

Can anybody suggest anywhere or know where I could find James Allen's dob?

You could try here
https://www.anesfhs.org.uk/databanks/memorial-inscriptions/miindex
Or here
https://www.findagrave.com/?

Birth/death/marriages and etc here
https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

See you've tried SP. If he was born in Scotland, he IS there.

For burials try www.deceasedonline.com
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

His wife, Sheena Hay Grassick died on 4th November 2020, aged 91. The funeral was private, at her own request, so no details in the paper giving any location or whether a burial or cremation.

Is this James Allen's death index entry?

JAMES FRAZER ALLEN
Age 65
Mother's maiden name MORGAN
1988
300/ 127
Aberdeen

From this, with a birth year c. 1923, I wonder if this could be his birth entry on the index:

JAMES FRASER ALLAN
1923
633/B 584
Cathcart (Lanark)

In case it helps further in finding burial details, Alfred Carson's death at the age of 75 in 1965 shows him with the middle name of Morrison.

That might connect with this birth entry, making him maybe a little older:

Alfred Morrison Carson
1889
168/1 1674
St Nicholas

You will have this already Alan, but just adding as background to your thread...

Just been reading about the war time activities of both Alfred Carson and Frazer Allan which resulted in both being awarded the George Medal (Aberdeen Evening Express - Tuesday 23 February 1965).

Alfred Carson in earlier years was also recognised for his bravery following his attempts to save a drowing man in the Albert Basin, Aberdeen.

Amazing men  :)

Frazer Allen's daughter died the year before he did, in 1987. Below is her death notice. At a guess, could these have been the same arrangements for Frazer Allen the following year?
