Dunaine County Antrim
« on: Monday 19 July 21 20:59 BST (UK) »
On the 1911 census Roger Mccurley b 1853 gave his birthplace as Dunaine County Antrim. It us not on the map. We will be looking for a Catholic graveyard and we will assume he meant Dunean.
Are there any helpful hints from anyone?

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Might he mean the civil parish of Duneane.

......or the townland of Duneany.

This looks like your Roger McCurley in 1911-

Did he marry in England? if so, marriage should hopefully list his father's name and occupation. Since Roger moved to England you are possibly looking for his family that remained in Ireland so if you have his father's name you can search for possible death registration in Ireland (after 1864), etc.
Have you searched the R.C. Parish Registers for Duneane yet?

Added- an online tree has him born in County Monaghan with father John McCurley (1832/1929 Co.Antrim-1900 Co.Durham)- married 1845 Co.Antrim/1852 Belfast. A different family tree gives John's wife as Mary McAteer.

If parents John & Mary correct then the family were living in Co. Durham by 1891 census so you are unlikely to find burial records for the family in Ireland.

Indeed it seems as though Rodger and parents John & Mary were in Co,Durham in 1871 census. From the children's ages they might have moved to England between 1859-1862 (before civil registration of Births, Deaths & Catholic Marriages)
