UK Birth Certificate Template Change
« on: Tuesday 20 July 21 11:26 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I thought this would be a quick internet search to get the answer, but alas no!

What I am trying to establish is when did the UK birth certificate change from capturing fathers name and profession etc to the current version that doesn't?

The reason is I want to order a birth certificate for someone to establish fathers name but need to know when the cut off date for it appearing is before placing the order as might be pointless.

Also out of interest why did it change to capture less info?

Thanks

Are you maybe getting muddled with the long birth certificate and the shortened form.  The latter is provided free on registration of birth but doesn't show the father details.  That has always been provided on the long birth certificate which you can pay for at time of registration.

If ordering a birth certificate you will always be provided with the long version.

Use this site providing it is after 1837 and not in the years that have not been digitised yet.  It is free to use the site but you need to register.

lol  ;D

I obtained both versions when my children were born.  I did that because I was for ever being asked to provide my own certificate and when they're not returned, or they're worn/torn at the creases because of being folded differently to fit into different sized envelopes.

It's expensive to buy new ones long after the registration date - same with duplicate marriage/ death certs.
