what happened to Nellie?
« on: Wednesday 21 July 21 13:19 BST (UK) »
There were two cousins both named Nellie Herringshaw, one born mar qtr 1896 mother Talbot the other mar qtr 1897 mother Lines both were born in Milverton.
The first was daughter of Edward and  Ann Elizabeth nee Talbot, the other was daughter of Abraham and Emma Elizabeth nee Lines
In 1911 Abraham's is with her parents and it seems the other is a servant in Stratford on Avon.
Abraham's daughter is unmarried with her parents in 1939 she married late (1952)
But what happened to her cousin after 1911 she just seems to disappear? Can any one help please?

Unfortunately I don't think this is the right Nellie.  Marriage record (original image) shows her as Nellie Mabel Herringshaw, father Joseph John Herringshaw (deceased), Grocer.
Robbins - Wolverhampton.
Spooner - Monmouthshire & Wolverhampton.
Warner & Loundes - Dudley/West Bromwich.
Dod(g)son - Heysham/Liverpool/Wolverhampton

A marriage indexed on ScotlandsPeople
1920, St Rollox
John Stevenson
+
Nellie Herringshaw
Ref 644/8 206

Can't see a death up there.
Something to investigate.

Many thanks for your suggestions. I too had dismissed the Windsor marriage , the Stephenson one is worth a closer look though, but I csn't think why she would be there...other than, "live in"  servants travelled with their "master's family"

Don't know if this is the couple who married in St Rollox, but I find them interesting!
An incoming passenger list, the "Arundel Castle", arriving Southampton 16 May 1932, from South Africa
John Stevenson 38 Missionary (I thought it said age 35, probably just me!)
Nellie Stevenson 36
Ethel L Stevenson 7
Irene V Stevenson 3

Country of last permanent residence N. Rhodesia
" intended future permanent residence Other parts of British Empire
Proposed address in UK, 87a Richmond Pk Rd, Kingston on Thames, Surrey

Outgoing possibility
"Glengorm Castle", departing London 24 March 1927 for South Africa
J Stevenson 33 Missionary
Mrs Stevenson 31
Miss E Stevenson 2

Last address in UK, 7 Mavisbank Tce Paisley
Country of intended future permanent residence Rhodesia

On SP, possible birth of Ethel?
1924, St Rollox
Ethel Lilias Stevenson
Ref 644/8 2175

Presumably they left the UK again after 1932?

Had some credits: John Stevenson 26, Missionary, son of James Stevenson, gardener  and Catherine nee Davidson married Nellie Herringshaw, 24, Biblewoman, dau. of Edward Thompson Herringshaw, missionary and Ann Elizabeth nee Talbot married 18/8/1920 St. Rollox, Glasgow (United Free Church of Scotland).  Witnesses: Harold Herringshaw, Ethel Herringshaw.

So this is indeed the Nellie in question.

OOOH YIPPEE YOU'VE REALLY CRACKED IT
Nellie's father was Edward Thompson Herringshaw a preacher for the Railway Mission in Leamington Spa, Witnesses,Harold and Ethel were two of Nellie's siblings. Her oldest brother William was killed by a lightening strike age 23  on his way home after preaching in a neighbouring village just a month before his arranged wedding. So it should not be a surprise that she married a missionary.
How interesting that she was described as a Biblewoman.

A huge thank you.
