Zambia: Lusaka - Frederick Edmund Hunt KEMP died 1965
« on: Friday 23 July 21 11:11 BST (UK) »
Hello all,

I wonder if anyone could help with this?

Page 2 of the attached document says that F E H Kemp died without making a will, but page 1 contradicts this in 3 places.

Is it possible that the will itself was lodged somewhere in Zambia - if so, how would I go about obtaining a copy?

Kind regards

Joy

It is outside my experience, I can only suggest that it is most likely the Will is held in Zambia, the sealing in London only refers  to the part of the estate held in England. Probably the best thing would be to ask the Zambia High Commission in London for guidance.

It appears that probate matters in Zambia are dealt with by the High Court in Lusaka (Family and Children's Division):

https://judiciaryzambia.com/high-court/

The second page from HM Courts and Tribunals Service is rather misleading. It covers the most common reason for an Administration, but not ones where (a) the probate/administration took place abroad and there was only a sealing in London, and/or (b) there was a will but for some reason it could not be proved in the normal way (this can apply to cases wholly in England too). Maybe someone needs to explain the procedures to them... ;D
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

Hello Arthur, many thanks for the link you very kindly sent.

It looks like this division wasn't created till 2016.  I'll pop them an email next week and see what they have to say.
