Autosomal DNA for Treanor/Traynor/Trainor/Trenor descendants
« on: Friday 23 July 21 23:42 BST (UK) »
In a bid to find information about my g/g.father's family, I started an Ancestor Project on Gedmatch for Tr'n'rs of all spellings (my mother was a Traynor).  Unfortunately I am none the wiser despite some distant matches.  However, there are now 180+ kits included so if you are a Tr'n'r descendant with an autosomal DNA test, please consider joining.  It could help you, me & lots of others. :)

Hello Leigh,
I did the Y-DNA test last year. But I found the results complicated and didn't tell me much about my ancestors. I am willing to share any of that information with you if you wish to send me a PM. I have traced them (Traynors) to Dromore, Co. Tyrone only as far back as the 1860s.

Hi Norm
Just revisiting old posts and horrified to see I did not reply to you!  Are you a member of the FTDNA Treanor/Traynor etc Ancestor Project for Y-DNA tests?  If not, please do have a look as you will get a lot of help with interpreting your results.
Regards, Leigh

Hello Leigh,
Thank you for keeping me in mind. I appreciate that.
I did the FTDNA test in June 2020. The result I received (Kit number M158071) on 3 October 2020 indicated I was a member of the Ui Máine Tréinfhir branch.
On 2 June 2022 I uploaded my raw autosomal DNA test results from FamilyTreeDNA to Gedmatch.com, (Kit number RH7536635).
To date nothing positive has emerged from either source indicating where my ancestors may have originally emanated from. There were no close matches either.
I have applied for an Ancestry DNA test kit in the hope it might bring a result.
I think I can trace my ancestors in Dromore, County Tyrone to around the Famine years.
Many thanks for all you are doing.
Kind regards
Michael (Traynor)
Dublin.

My mind must work in a weird way - I saw Tray Norm rather than Traynor M    ::). I can see now that you are in the Ancestor Project - thank you for that - & having checked my emails, I see we have been in touch before.  It’s worth re-running your matches in the Gedmatch project from time to time as you may find some new additions.
All the best,
Leigh
