Pension Records (Royal Marines)
« on: Saturday 24 July 21 22:26 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone
    I'm hoping that I maybe able to track down some information on my GG Uncles Pension record or any other information on him and his wife other than what I have already.

    William BYRNE (also spelt Burn) died 9 May 1852 High Street, Greenwich, Sub-district Woolwich Arsenal aged 72.  He died of Typhus fever and Bronchitis.

     William was a publican for a while and had the Hampshire Hog for a few years c 1824-1827.

      William married his wife Catherine Dinan in 1806 in Devon.  She died in 1853 in the Union Workhouse.  Say's on her death certificate Widow of William BYRNE a Publican.

     If anyone can suggest where I may find some information on Williams pension OR the workhouse records for Catherine Byrne I would be most appreciative.  Kindest regards Dianna

Rootschat has links for military interests and also for workhouses.

The military would be on the armed forces board(s)
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/armed-forces/
, and www.workhouses.org is a good starting point for the wife.

Hi Shaun.  I just saw you post.  Could you tell me more about this record please could be something!!!  William Byrne 'PM'.  Where does this information come from!!  He joined in 1797, so possibly him.  He does come from Co. Kildare also!!  I am going through his attestation papers today, very hard to read so I have been putting it off.  Thanks so much.  Dianna

Yes the Royal Marines are part of the Royal Navy.

The allotment record can be viewed on FindMyPast. https://search.findmypast.co.uk/record?id=S2%2FGBM%2FADM27%2F102103857%2F00223&parentid=GBM%2FADM27%2F2%2F000127433

"PM" = Private Marine
