Linwood Cemetery, Christchurch
« on: Sunday 25 July 21 22:02 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know where I might find photographs of headstones in the above cemetery?  I am looking for a photograph of the headstone of Mary Ann West, who died on 10 June 1947.  Her  grave is located in Block 15, Plot 250.

Hi

You can make a request for a photo, here (- although it may be that there is no headstone in that plot?)

Hi grahamila

This is how the inscription reads for Mary Ann West.

5600 :  Mary Ann WEST d, 10 June 1947 aged 84.    Her husband Henry J. WEST d. 25 May 1950 aged 69 *.     Their  youngest son Staff Sergt Leonard A.  NZFA Main Body, died in ENG.  5 February 1919, aged 26.
[source:  NZ Cemetery Records at ancestry.com]

* 69   =   Records for Linwood Cemetery (at Christchurch Libraries) record the age of Henry James WEST as being 89 years (d. 1950).

Link to Christchurch Cemeteries database >

https://heritage.christchurchcitylibraries.com/Cemeteries/

Henry James WEST is in an adjacent plot (# 249) to his wife Mary Ann.

[Above database also gives you the option to search for "other burials in same plot" -- refer to their "advanced search" function. ]

Coming  in late to this, but for future reference The Friends of Linwood Cemetery Trust have done a considerable amount of photography of graves/plots over the years and have been for years trying to work out ways to get them accessible without much luck.  They are backed up on harddrives.  Brick walls with Govt organisations and as you can imagine not largely funded and only run by a handful of volunteers now, getting them online and maintaining that is almost impossible.  Their website appears to have a warning when it opens but it's not dangerous to ignore as far as i can see, I've opened it a couple of times -  and I know it was being work on the back end properly while I was more fully involved with the trust. https://www.linwoodcemetery.org.nz

I am a Lifelong member however live in Auckland and don't have access to the photographs that have been taken over the years.  The former secretary Alexandra who did an immense amount of work in relation to naming and processing them moved back to England in 2016 however did keep her hand in it for a while but not now.  The facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/TheFriendsOfLinwoodCemetery - if you cannot locate images elsewhere.

The membership was near critical level last I heard as the members have dwindled in the trust.  Most are elderly with a couple of 'younger' ones thrown in and answers may not be immediate due to their family commitments, but i keep an eye as admin on the page (for now) and i can try and move the query along if need be.
