Thank you all for your help.
Some answers to the queries raised (many of which members have already answered).
Eyesee, Mother's maiden name is Doyle. Elder sister is Alice Louise and younger brother is Edward Charles.
Kay99, the workhouse discharge for a Florence Stewart is new information for us, if it's 'our' Florence.
Johnhood, yes you have the right marriage.

It may relate to this workhouse discharge
Florence Stewart Age:    56
Record Type:    Discharge
Birth Date:    abt 1864
Discharge :    11 Dec 1920 Southwark, London

To Southwark Hospital (the Champion Hill Infirmary)
Creed register says she was an alleged lunatic.

An earlier admission for her to Newington workhouse, not on ancestry.
19 January 1918, Florence Stewart, a Hawker, born 1865 (probably means she said she was 53)
Creed register says Florence was admitted from 26 Dodson Street. Religious creed Church of England. Name of Relatives - No friends. Discharged 11.2.18.

Our family records show a Florence Stewart born 1866

What are these family records?

The Florence aged 56 in 1920 death is possibly the one born Dec qtr 1864, registered at Clerkenwell, mmn GOUGH.

There is definitely no Florence with mmn as DOYLE.

No, she married in 1887 to Frank William BOND. Her parents were Henry Cattley STEWART and Lucy GOUGH.

There is definitely no Florence with mmn as DOYLE.

There is also very little opportunity for the birth of another child.  These are the children that appear on the 1871 census

STEWART, EMILY  EDITH      (DOYLE)
GRO Reference: 1865  J Quarter in LAMBETH  Volume 01D  Page 402

STEWART, CHARLES  EDWARD     (DOYLE)
GRO Reference: 1866  S Quarter in LAMBETH  Volume 01D  Page 390

STEWART, ALICE  LOUISE   (DOYLE)
GRO Reference: 1868  M Quarter in LAMBETH  Volume 01D  Page 454

STEWART, MINNIE  MAUDE   (DOYLE)

Jonw65, the family records are the family trees transcribed by  my deceased Stewart cousin. He employed UK genealogist around 1970/80s to follow up the family history. The last of the great aunts died in 1961 and his father was also interested in his immediate family. Florence's name appears regularly in all his family tree records over time as well as the date of birth/death in his later ones.
I agree its confusing when no census records show a young Florence in the family home.

Debra, yes they were certainly active in the 4 years from 1865 Edith Emily, Florence 1866 and then Edward Charles 1867 and then another in 1868.
I see the GRO shows EC as being born in 1866. I dont have a copy of his birth certificate but have his marriage certificate and he states when married in March 1892 that he is 25 years of age, in other words born 1867. Obviously the solution to this elusive Florence is for me to get EC's birth certificate and if it is 1866 then Florence could not be family. Unless a twin of EC!!

As regards Florence having been sent to a lunatic asylum, I remember my mother saying that one of my great aunts went mad but they only realized this when she was found wandering around London naked but with her fur coat on. (Why when we are young do we find these old family stories boring and we tune out?).

If it heips Charles Edward's baptism in on Anc and his birth date given as 16 Aug 1866

Charles Edward Stewart
Baptism 31 Oct 1866
Birth Date 16 Aug 1866
Brixton St John the Evangelist, Lambeth, England
Father  William Stewart  Tea Dealer
Mother Emily Alice Stewart

Kay

Added

Emily Edith Stewart
Birth Date 8 May 1865
Baptism Date 7 Jul 1865 Brixton St John the Evangelist, Lambeth,
Father William Stewart
Mother Emily Alice Stewart

So no space for a Florence in 1865 or 1866

Thank you Kay99 and Eyesee and everyone else.
Well that puts an end to Florence. I wonder why and how she ever got added to the family tree. We will never know.
