Im getting slightly confused with this now sorry. So the baptism date of 26th March 1837 is of Esther or of Son and Daughter Robert and Elizabeth?

Yes, daughter of Robert and Elizabeth. See reply 11 and link to 1841 census.

Robert was definitely his father - not Thomas.  Whether his mother was Esther or Elizabeth is uncertain but if his birth reg is the one I posted earlier in the March qtr 1839 then her maiden name was Findlay as per

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

A birth on 21st December 1838 would be registered in the March qtr 1839

I think I have found it and worked it out now;

Elizabeth Findler (not Findlay) 1807-1867

Thank you for your help with this, what are the main sources are you using?

Death of first wife of Robert senior
From Newcastle Journal 24-8-1833
On the 16th inst, at the Ferry Boat Landing, South Shields, aged 39, Mrs Ann Fleck

Ferry Boat Landing is the abode on the baptism of their last child and on the burial on 19th August 1833. Robert is a Master Mariner on the baptism.

I am using FindMyPast but it is just one option, many sources available.

As Comberton says many sources are available.

Re Robert Fleck Sen. the 1841 census suggests he was born in Yorkshire. There is a Masters and Mates Certificate on Ancestry which may be  for him which gives a birthplace of Whitby and a date of birth of 15 Oct 1792. This document itemises his service at sea and gives an address in South Shields in 1852.

Checking transcript of the Whitby PRs for the birth of Robert FLECK 15 Oct 1792 there are more than one families of that surname having children around then. The one of interest has a typo in the surname.
Baptism 15 Oct 1792 FLETT, Robert son John and Esther, (mariner) born and bapt, Whitby, p
I don’t know what the “p” is for. Most baptism have that at the end of the entry. A few have “r” and a few have “xd”.
PS
Checking in FindmyPast I see they also have it as "FLETT" and that is what the image looks like.
And to add to the fun there is also a Robert FLETT baptised in Whitby 21 Sep 1792 (born 18 Sep) son of Henry and Elizabeth, Sailor.

I appreciate it.

So seeing as this goes back to 1792 I am going to assume we cannot go any further back as the census and other info isn’t there. Or is there a way?
